The General Business Census is carried out within the framework of the agreement signed between the Gabonese Government and the World Bank for the development of statistics, with the main concern of having up-to-date and reliable information for the migration of the National Accounting System from 1993 to the National Accounting System of 2008, to have a national directory of companies and a sampling frame for future economic research.
The General Directorate of Statistics and Economic Studies (DGSEE) was created in 1976. Since October 2011, the DGSEE has become the General Directorate of Statistics (DGS).
