THIRD DEMOGRAPHIC AND HEALTH SURVEY (EDSG-III)

Gabon, as part of the implementation of its National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and the Statistical Development Program (PDS), has just completed its Third Demographic and Health Survey. Called EDSG-III 2019-2021, in acronym, it was executed and coordinated by the Directorate General of Statistics (DGS) of the Ministry of Economy and Recovery, in close collaboration with the technical services of the ministries in charge of Health, of Social Affairs and Scientific Research. It follows the two previous similar investigations in 2000 and 2012.

The workshop brings together legal experts from sectoral ministries and institutions including those of the General Secretariat of Government, the State Council, and the technical staff of the Ministry of Economy, including those of the DGS.

The work of the workshop aims to examine, correct and validate the collection of the texts of application of the law n°016/2022 of 6 September 2022 necessary for the operational implementation of INSTAT GABON, proposed by a consultant recruited for this purpose.

Since the development of the protocol until the publication of this report, Gabon has benefited from the technical assistance of ICF Macro International, an American institution in charge of the global Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program. In addition to the Gabonese Government, funding for EDSG-III 2019-2021 was provided by Development Partners, namely the World Bank and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

By implementing the Demographic and Health Survey, the DGS intends to make available to policy makers, planners and researchers, updated data for good planning of the economic and social development of the country.
